CLASSES OFFERED:

Joshua Crews

Florida Concealed Carry:   Our Florida Concealed Carry class is designed for new or experienced shooters who desire a Florida Concealed Weapons Permit. The course begins with a basic firearms orientation in the classroom, covering firearms safety, nomenclature, function, basic shooting fundamentals and maintenance.

Also covered are the Florida Statutes regarding concealed carry and the lawful use of force in self-defense. Following the classroom portion, we break for lunch before reconvening on the range. During the range portion students will fire 50-100 rounds in a safe and controlled range environment. Students will earn a certificate of completion that qualifies them to apply for their Florida Concealed Weapons Permit.

Long Range Precision:  This 18 hour Long Range Precision course instructs students on the safe management and application of long range precision shooting. This course is appropriate for experienced shooters or beginners who desire to gain experience with strong fundamental instruction. Students will shoot from 100 – 850 yards.”

Tactical Carbine  This 20 hour Tactical Carbine/Rifle course instructs students on the safe management and application of Tactical Carbine/Rifle. This course is appropriate for experienced shooters or beginners who desire to gain experience with strong fundamental instruction. Students will shoot from 7-200 yards with a majority of the training taking place from 100 yards and in.


The course will address the following major topics:

  • Safety
  • Weapon System Manipulation
  • Surgical shooting (Rifle/Pistol)
  • Target Discrimination
  • Weapon Zero
  • Typical and Non-Typical Shooting Positions
  • Shooting Plan Development
  • Proper position for distance
  • Target Selection

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Students will shoot from prone, kneeling, and standing positions. We will not be doing pushups or running laps, but participants should expect a full day of outdoor activity.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: All normal tactical equipment including rifle with 3 magazines, a pistol with at least one magazine, belt pistol holster, mag pouches, sling, eye and ear protection, 500 rounds of ammunition for the rifle, 50 rounds of ammunition for the pistol. Bring cold/hot weather gear as required. We recommend bringing sunscreen, bug spray, and a folding chair. Iced coolers will be provided with water for hydration.

PREREQUISITES: No experience with the AR15 platform is required. Students will be required to maintain safe operation throughout the course. Minors are accepted with parent supervision on a case by case basis.

  • Saturday (9:00 AM TO 6:00PM) BRADFORD SPORTSMAN’S FARM
  • Sunday (12:00 PM TO 6:00PM) BRADFORD SPORTSMAN’S FARM

Additional Information: We break for 1 hrs for lunch on Saturday. Most students will go to Starke for restaurants and AC! Bring a bag lunch for and a lunch/snack for yourself for the Sunday afternoon session.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Christopher Potocki, ACSO Deputy, Former Navy Corpsman, NRA Certified Pistol Instructor

Chris Potocki is currently employed by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in a Patrol function, and currently assigned as a Field Training Deputy; he has been employed with the ACSO since 2010.  Prior to Law Enforcement, Chris served as a U.S. Navy Corpsman for 7 years on Active Duty and 2.5 years in the Reserves. Chris completed 2 combat tours in Iraq, serving with Marine Corps units, working in a mobile medical hospital, and flying CASEVAC (Casualty Evacuation) missions with the Marine Air Wing units: HMM-161 and HMM-265.  Chris has also been involved in a lawful self-defense shooting as a concealed weapons permit holder, and endured the legal and media headache that followed, prior to it being cleared as justified. Chris is currently a certified NRA Pistol Instructor, with a focus on teaching concealed weapons certification classes, and personalized instruction for self-defense strategies.   Chris is always willing to answer your questions or help you pick out the perfect firearm or accessories based on your focus; hunting, home defense, concealed carry, etc.

Sgt. Joshua Crews - Tactical Carbine - NRA Certified Instructor

Sergeant Joshua Crews is currently employed with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol supervisor.  Sgt. Crews has 16 years of Law Enforcement Experience and has been a Sergeant for the past 6 years.  Sgt. Crews has been on the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team for the past 10 years.  He currently holds a position of Team Leader and Sniper Team Commander.  He has been a sniper on the ACSO SWAT Team for the past 9 years.  The past 5 years he has held the responsibility of being the Sniper Team Commander.  Sgt. Crews is an accomplished SWAT/Sniper operator with thousands of hours of advanced weapons and tactics training.  He has been a firearms instructor for the past 8 years and holds instructor certifications with the National Rifle Association, Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission and Paul Howe’s Combat Shooting and Tactics.  Sgt. Crews is a Handgun, Tactical Rifle/Carbine, Live Fire Shoot House and Long Range Precision Rifle Instructor.  Sgt. Crews has competed in multiple international law enforcement special team’s competitions to include Sniper Craft’s International Sniper Challenge and The SWAT Roundup International.  Sgt. Crews and his shooting partner won the 2008 and the 2010 Sniper Challenge.  Sgt. Crews is also a decorated Deputy Sheriff who has received Deputy of the Month accommodations on multiple occasions as well as the Special Service Award.  Sgt. Crews also received the Medal of Valor in December of 2010, for a lethal force encounter he was involved in while taking an armed double homicide suspect into custody.   Sgt. Crews has always had a passion for shooting, tactics and teaching others.
