OUR STORY
Lawful Defense was founded in 2011 with a simple belief: customers deserve respect, honesty, and to be treated like valued guests — not inconveniences.
That belief was forged the day our founder, Glenn Jones, walked into a local gun store he had supported for years and the clerk dismissively laughed in his face for asking about a newly released rifle. Instead of brushing it off, Glenn made a decision that would change everything.
That same day, he began the process of obtaining his Federal Firearms License, determined to build the kind of firearms business he felt his local community deserved — one that welcomed every customer and took their needs seriously.
Lawful Defense Guns & Transfers LLC began as a small operation in a modest commercial space at 8920 NW 13th Street while Glenn was working full-time as a local law enforcement detective. Word spread quickly. New friends were made. Customers returned. Relationships grew.

What started as a one-man operation soon expanded to a team of three, and it became clear the business had outgrown its first home.
A Community Destination
The move to our current location at 9420 NW 13th Street in Gainesville, Florida, just outside the growing city of Alachua, marked a turning point. Lawful Defense wasn’t just growing — it was becoming a destination with its own community of like-minded firearms enthusiasts.
Shoot GTR Is Born — 2017
Glenn acquired the Gainesville Target Range and reintroduced it to the community as Shoot GTR. The range was expanded from four bays to twelve and outfitted with modern infrastructure, including two full-size classrooms, creating a complete ecosystem for education, practice, and growth.
More Than a Gun Store
It didn’t take long for Glenn to recognize a hard truth: selling firearms and gear alone wasn’t enough. Responsible ownership requires education, skill, and continual training. So Lawful Defense expanded into firearms instruction, offering classes focused on concealed carry, self-defense, and responsible ownership.
Who We Are Today
Today, Lawful Defense and Shoot GTR employ 18–20 full- and part-time staff members and three dedicated firearms instructors. Together, we serve everyone from first-time gun owners to seasoned professionals.
